Liturgy
Religion Moderator: Ms. Karen Royer
The Eucharist is an essential aspect of our regular programs. All students plan and participate in the Liturgy every First Friday of the month and on special occasions. Students participate in the Lenten Stations of the Cross and/or Benedictions and prayers services throughout the year.
Nativity students may also take part in our weekend masses by joining our Alter Servers. Alter servers are expected to participate in scheduled masses throughout the year.
Choir
Junior Choir Director: Mrs. Nora Graham
Senior Choir Director: Mrs. Susan Borneman
The Nativity Choir consists of two groups, Junior Choir (Grades 3 - 5) and Senior Choir (Grades 6 - 8). Choir practice is held on Friday afternoons. Choir participants are expected to sing at scheduled Sunday Masses, all school Masses and at other school and liturgical occasions throughout the year.
Art
Moderator: Mrs. Alma Plewes
Art is taught to to all children twice a month. Mediums include water color, chalk, oil paints, crayons and markers.
Student Council
Moderator: Mrs. Monica Sandoval
The Student Council is composed of students in Grades 6 - 8 and faculty moderators. Council members are determined by a general election held in May of the school year preceding their year in office. Teachers assist and support the activities of the Student Council.
School Newspaper: The Bruin Roar
Moderator: Mr. Vern Ryan
The Bruin Roar is published quarterly. Students in Grades 6 - 8 are eligible to join the newspaper staff provided that they meet academic and behavioral standards. The newspaper moderator will select the student staff from the available applicants based on their willingness to participate, writing and data organizing ability, dedication and availability for meetings.
Yearbook:The Paw Print
Moderator: Ms. Ann Duda
The Paw Print is published annually. Students in Grades 6 - 8 are eligible to join the yearbook staff provided they meet academic and behavioral standards. The yearbook moderator will select the student staff from the available applicants based on their willingness to participate, writing and data organizing ability, dedication and availability for meetings.
Academic Decathlon
Moderator: Mrs. Michelle Ramos
The Nativity Catholic School Academic Decathlete is a "Nativity Catholic School junior high student of exceptional character, who maintains high marks in all classes, lives by a strict code of honor, demonstrates a willingness to sacrifice personal desires for the betterment of the team, exhibits strong school spirit, and exemplifies a profound thirst for knowledge and intense respect for education and achievement."
Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 may be invited to train for the Academic Decathlon Team. Representing Nativity Catholic School at the March event at the Los Angeles Sports Arena is a privilege and an immense time commitment. Only students who earn and maintain at least a “B” average in all academic subjects, conduct and work habits are eligible.
