Admissions Guidelines & Process
Nativity Catholic School desires to offer admission to applicants who are committed to a Catholic school education and who meet the school’s admission criteria. Preferences shall be given to active members of the parish.
✤Under Archdiocesan guidelines for financial considerations, the optimum number of students per classroom is thirty-five (35).
✤The recommended age for Kindergarten students is five (5) years of age on or before September 1, but required by December 1.
✤The recommended age for First Grade students is six (6) years of age on or before September 1, but required by December 1.
✤All students must comply with current California immunization and health requirements prior to enrollment.
✤The parish school will strive to have Catholic education accessible to as many students possible, with its educational programs and financial considerations; however, it may have insufficient resources to serve the educational needs of all students.
✤The pastor and principal will review a student’s continued eligibility for enrollment in the parish school.
The school has established maximum class sizes. As a result, there are sometimes more applicants than there are spaces available. When this occurs, admission to the school proceeds as follows:
Initial Admission/Re-Enrollment for Fall Semester
Initial admissions/re-enrollment for the Fall Semester proceed at a pre-communicated date in early Spring (starting January 31, 2011 for the 2011-2012 school year). Admission proceeds on a level-by-level sequence, as indicated below.
A.Re-enrollment of students currently attending Nativity Catholic School, children of Nativity Catholic School staff.
B.Siblings of students currently attending Nativity Catholic School.
C.Children of registered, active and/or contributing parishioners of a Catholic parish.
D.All other applicants.
The Admissions Committee will prioritize acceptance of students according to academic achievement and other considerations, including siblings of newly accepted applicants, siblings of Nativity Catholic School alumni, and applicants with special gifts and talents.
Subsequent Admission/Re-Admission
After the initial Admission/Re-Enrollment process is completed in early Spring, all applicants who were not admitted due to space considerations will be placed on a waiting list if so desired by the family.
When a vacancy occurs in a grade which has a wait-list, the Admissions Committee will prioritize acceptance of students in the waiting list according to academic achievement and other considerations: siblings of currently enrolled students; children of registered, active and/or contributing parishioners of Nativity Catholic Church or other Catholic parishes; students transferring from other Catholic schools; children of Nativity Catholic School teaching staff; siblings of newly accepted applicants, siblings of graduates of Nativity Catholic School; and applicants with special gifts and talents.
✤Parents must register each year to re-admit their children.
✤Re-admission of current students, like new admissions, is dependent upon the same criteria: on-going support and participation, completion of parent involvement commitment or payment of the fee, up-to-date tuition and fee records, the willingness to work together for the benefit of your child and the school community, and the completion of the registration form and accompanying information.
✤Students who leave Nativity Catholic School with the intention of not returning will not be given special preference should they decide to return to the school. They will be required to register as a new students and be placed on the waiting list.
